Fostering shelter dogs is one of the most rewarding things that a person can do. Being a foster parent to a dog means that the dog will be staying in your home, and you’ll be responsible for feeding and caring for the dog. Fostering dogs is also an excellent opportunity for shelter dogs to learn how to be social and get ready for a home environment.
Although shelters provide a safe environment for the dogs where they get fed and cared for by staff and volunteers, they usually stay inside a kennel and are only allowed out when it’s time for their walk or exercise. Dogs living in shelters also don’t have a lot of chances to socialize with other dogs and animals.
An adorable female Golden Retriever puppy named Shamrock was surrendered to a shelter because of having issues with her vision. Other than eye problems, Shamrock is a very healthy and energetic puppy who only wants to play and cuddle. A woman named Kim Dowie volunteered to foster little Shamrock.
Kim figured that her two adult Golden Retrievers at home might be able to teach little Shamrock a thing or two about being a Golden Retriever. At first, Shamrock didn’t know how to play. She would try to join the two Golden Retrievers during playtime, but Shamrock couldn’t get the hang of how to play properly.
It’s adorable when Shamrock tries to join in on the fun. She works really hard to fit in, and Shamrock does manage to make her foster mom laugh out for being so silly. Kim’s Golden Retrievers were very patient with Shamrock. They taught her everything they knew on how to be a good Golden Retriever.
The two adult Golden Retrievers taught Shamrock how to roll around in the mud and how to make a mess. When Shamrock succeeded in her tasks, the two Golden Retrievers even let her drink water out of their bowl. It didn’t take long for little Shamrock to fit in. One of Kim’s Golden Retrievers, Julep, loves playing with Shamrock and is often seen cuddling with the puppy. Kim’s other Golden Retriever, Mojito, plays the role of the mama dog for Shamrock.
After two weeks in foster care, Shamrock is finally ready to be adopted. Before, Shamrock didn’t really like cuddling or being picked up. After two weeks of learning what it’s like to have a family, Shamrock completely changed turned into a puppy who loves to cuddle. When Kim got in touch with Shamrock’s potential forever family, she was excited and sad at the same time.
Kim knew that Shamrock’s charm would make her potential family love her, and she will likely get adopted. However, Kim also started bonding with Shamrock that she was going to miss the tiny puppy so much when she’s gone. Kim was happy that Shamrock’s finally going to her forever home with a loving family that will surely love her and never abandon her again. Here’s a heartwarming video showing Shamrock’s journey from a shelter dog to a perfect dog that a family could ever ask for thanks to Kim and her two adorable Golden Retrievers.
