Some people find joy in helping others. As the Bible verse goes, “It is better to give than to receive.” People like helping others more than they receive gifts for themselves.
Take the case of Hailey Pugh, a 10-year-old girl from Boone County, Kentucky, who requested donations for a local animal shelter instead of receiving toys for her birthday.
Hailey had a wonderful birthday celebration. Her parents threw an extravagant unicorn-themed party for her. It was complete with a Kona ice truck rental, bounce house, and room full of unicorn decorations. However, Hailey chose not to receive gifts from her guests; her birthday wish is to give supplies for the local animal shelter.
Hailey specifically said to her guests to bring donations for the Boone County Animal Shelter.
It was a happy birthday celebration indeed! Hailey received various supplies for the animals in the shelter, ranging from food, toys, beds, and blankets.
Hailey felt the animals in the shelter need more than she needs new toys and clothes.
Coleen Bray, director of Boone County Animal Shelter, is touched by Hailey’s kind gesture. She never thought that a young girl would care a lot about the animals’ welfare.
Hailey is an animal lover; she has two dogs, three cats, a hamster, and a sugar glider. She rescues animals, and she said that she would continue to save them until she grows up.
Hailey wants to be a veterinarian in the future. She likes to help animals who are sick and hurt, and by donating supplies for the animal shelter on her birthday, Hailey knows that it will help a lot of animals staying there. She also wishes that all animals in the sanctuary will soon get adopted.
You have a golden heart, Hailey! May you be able to reach all your dreams in life, happy birthday!
