Remus spent four years of his life being a dogfighter before being brought to the Flagler Humane Society. He was adopted twice by two different families but was returned to the same shelter for being too clingy.
Luckily, Remus ended up being in good hands when his new human parents, Liz Graffagnino Taft and Travis Taft, became his last family. The Tafts took many months before they managed to address Remus’s traumas and separation anxiety, but their efforts paid off when he transformed into the sweetest pup.
Liz and her husband eventually welcomed their first baby girl. They recalled being worried when they got home from the hospital because they were unsure how Remus would react to their growing family’s newest addition since he was used to being the center of their attention.
Remus also never experienced being around children before, so Liz and her husband cautiously introduced Remus to their daughter because of how big he was. Remus met his baby sister with a baby gate between them, and he licked her head through it and looked surprisingly calm throughout the introduction.
Liz said that it was as if Remus knew he needed to be careful with his sister because he became attentive whenever she was around. Remus always laid at her feet whenever she breastfeeds her daughter using the breastfeeding pillow and would lick the back of her head every time she cries.
Liz’s daughter was having a meltdown and needed to be fed, but the pillow was all the way upstairs. Liz recalled how surprised she was when she saw Remus going to their room and ran back downstairs to give her the cushion.
Liz believes Remus must have associated the cushion with his baby sister no longer crying, so he always grabs it and gives it to her whenever the newborn cries. Liz said Remus is indeed the perfect brother because of how attentive he is to the baby’s needs.
