A rescued Chihuahua made headlines when she set the world record for having the most puppies at once by giving birth to 11. 10 was the previous record. And it just so happened that this mother dog, named LOL or Laugh Out Loud, gave birth on National Puppy Day.
LOL, who is just 1.5 years old, lives with her foster mother, Josie Brown. However, she was once a mistreated puppy living with a hoarder. She shared her filthy home with dozens of other creatures.
Unleashed Pet Rescue, a Kansas City-based no-kill animal sanctuary, collaborated with local authorities to rescue the animals after receiving allegations of their horrible living conditions. Among them, one was LOL.
As there were numerous animals rescued that day, the shelter reached out to its network of foster volunteers for assistance. LOL was already pregnant at the time, but Josie did not object to bringing her to her residence in Olathe, Kansas. As with most small dog breeds, they anticipated she would have between two and five puppies. However, much to their surprise, there was much more.
LOL was in labor for 12 hours, and no one could believe how many puppies kept coming out of her. When more than five puppies were delivered, they observed that LOL’s stomach was still bloated. They were aware that there were still puppies inside. They soon lost count of how many puppies were born.
The following day, however, Josie counted the litter again and found that there were 11 puppies.
The shelter was receiving updates from Josie and was astounded by the number of puppies she had given birth to. According to them, despite her young age, this was the second time Josie had given birth.
Josie will care for the puppies until they are old enough to be adopted.
