A nonprofit charity organization called Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue has developed a program that doesn’t just help stray dogs get a better life but also helps kids from rough neighborhoods learn how to value and respect animals. The program also keeps them away from bad habits.
According to the rescue group, they recruit these children and ask them to look for stray dogs that need help in their community. They gave them these responsibilities so that they could help the canines instead of harming them.
In a video posted on Youtube, some of these kids are shown helping rescuers from Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue save a pit bull living in an abandoned home.
Guardians of the community
The video started with some youngsters walking around their neighborhood accompanied by rescuers. They are looking for stray pooches that need help. While walking down one neglected alley, they suddenly heard a dog whining from one of the houses. They turned and saw a sad-looking born pit bull looking at them from a second-floor window.
After discussing their tactics, the group went inside the dilapidated building. They were cautious walking around as the floorboards were rotten, and there was a lot of broken glass.
The lead rescuer went up to the second floor then slowly approached the scared and confused pup. Although he didn’t show signs of aggression, it was clear to them that any sudden movement could startle the dog, and he would run away.
So the rescuer gently introduced a leash to the dog and eventually placed it over his head. They then took him to their car, where he let go of his guard and started munching on some treats.
A force to be reckoned with
Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue feels that more dogs will find better lives as more kids join their program. They sincerely hope that their plans will spread and their message will be clearly heard. With thousands of children helping them, Detroit would no longer have a problem with homeless dogs.
